On a Parramatta City Raceway (PCR) track surface that was a tough
task for even the most experienced of competitors, Antony Jeffrey came away from
the latest round of the PCR Sprintcar track championship with a respectable
finish. At the beginning of the season Jeffrey laid out his intentions clearly: to
qualify for the B-mains on a more regular basis, and the # 47 AutObarn
–Villawood supported J&J driver came very close to achieving a B-main birth
by placing fourth in the C-main.
However, the night wasn’t all beer and skittles for Jeffrey as he was
crippled by a fuel system drama earlier in the night forcing him to miss his
qualifying time trial order position, and run a solitary lap at the end of the
session. Jeffrey’s single lap time was only good enough for him to place 53rd
out of the 55 car field.
Due to missing out on running in the top 48 in time trials, Jeffrey took his
place in the non-qualifiers heat race where he was able to recover from a
mid-race spin (whilst running second to Ian Burrows) to finish third.
Starting from deep in the field for the C-main (position 11), Jeffrey worked
his way forward to finish a commendable fourth place.
“We didn’t have the best of starts to the night, but by the end of it I was
pretty happy,” Jeffrey enthused.
“The track conditions were quite tough, especially for the newcomers, and the
whole aim for the night was to just move forward the best we could and to finish
fourth in the C-main after starting from position 11 was very encouraging.”
With this coming weekend absent of Sprintcar competition in NSW, Jeffrey and
his Raw Fuel Racing team will return to the track on Saturday, December 2 for
the eighth round of the PCR track championship.
